Applications
Medical technology
In medical technology, hygiene standards and safety are of paramount importance. VIAL Automation takes on this challenge. Ultrasonic technology, as the most reliable joining method, provides absolute process reliability and ensures fast and high-quality production.
Our automated and comprehensive ultrasonic solutions are used in a wide range of industries, including medical devices. Ultrasonic welding is the most popular manufacturing method for disposable hygiene products, medical devices such as respirators and protective clothing, medical tools or equipment, various filters and much more.

Sartorius
is a trusted partner to the life science research and biopharmaceutical industries. In November 2021 Sartorius acquired
BIA Separations
- a Slovenian company that develops and manufactures market-leading products for the purification and analysis of large biomolecules.
Many diseases such as cancer, dementia or inflammatory diseases are still not curable and too little is known about them. BIA Separations - Sartorius makes a significant contribution to scientists and engineers in the biotechnology industry around the world in the development and manufacture of medicines.
Chromatography is a method to separate mixtures into their individual components. With our know-how, chromatographic monolithic columns are produced in our modernized ISO 8 standard clean room. The special separating chemical is placed on a large plastic film and the film is rolled up. Then the ends are ultrasonically welded, and the column ready for preparative chromatography. These columns allow the separation of large quantities of proteins, viruses and DNA.
Automotive
With electromobility, many new applications are coming to fruition in the automotive industry. In close cooperation with our long-standing partner,
TELSONIC AG,
and their first-class ultrasonic components, which we use exclusively, we realize stable application processes.
To preserve resources as much as possible, it is important that optimal recycling is already taken into consideration when designing the parts. Circular economy is a central topic for VIAL Automation, allowing us to protect the environment and develop long-term sustainable production methods in harmony with it.
The greatest challenge of the 21st century is not to produce more and more, without regard to the disposal at the end of life of the products, but to produce better and better, so that the resources used, after their first application, can be reused and recycled in a second life.

According to the motto: «Re-Use, Up-Cycle, Re-Cycle»
Traceability is required to meet the quality standards of the Automotive and MedTech industries. Part and batch numbers are often longer than the part itself, VIAL Automation uses laser engraves its parts with QR-codes, so that any employee can identify our parts.
VIAL Automation supports its customers in the best choice of connection technology, considering "end of life" applications.
For the automotive industry, we have realized parking assistance sensors, headlight lenses, ultrasonic cutting of trims on the dashboard, wire compression and welding of wires to the terminal.
The latest topic is aluminum copper busbars for high-voltage batteries of electric cars. Here, we draw on our many years of experience in the field of ultrasonic metal welding and offer our customers a highly reliable process.
Using ultrasonic joining technology, we can weld busbars to a terminal without any problem. Busbars are made of copper or aluminum sheet used in electrical power distribution and are an integral part of EV battery packs of an electric vehicle. Busbars need to be both strong and lightweight, they also need to conduct electricity perfectly so that electric vehicles can be more cost-effective, safer, and easier to produce.
Food industry
Ultrasonic technology has several applications in the food industry.
Many packaging solutions are welded with ultrasonics:
Ultrasonics make food cutting quicker and more esthetically pleasing.
- • Films for sandwich and cake packaging
- • Welding of portioned meat or cheese packaging
- • Welding yoghurt lids
- • Individual sweat wrappers

In today's fast-paced world, people do not have time to prepare a hot meal, so they consume food outside their homes or have it delivered. These new habits leave behind tons of plastic waste, which often end up in the environment and from there ends in the sea.
To protect the environment and the oceans, the EU has enacted laws banning the use of single-use plastic packaging; these laws have been in force since 2 July 2021. France has gone further and banned the plastic packaging of unprocessed fruit from 1 April 2022. From 2026, the entire product range is to be sold without plastic. Adapting to these new ways is a challenge. VIAL Automation is ready to take up the challenge and is committed to the circular economy.
Hemp has long been known for its useful properties, it was used by our ancestors not only as a medicine, but also for rope production, textiles, as a raw material for paper, as oil and biomass.
Today we are rediscovering hemp as a packaging material, hemp straw has a lower thermal conductivity than polystyrene foam and can be used as a sustainable insulation material because it breathes at the same time, offering the ideal property for unprocessed food. With our technology, wrapped in a compostable renewable nonwoven material, it creates bags that can be placed under food and maintain better freshness than plastic. When the packaging is no longer needed, it can be composted. Compost makes a great contribution to soil fertility, which reduces or completely eliminates the use of artificial fertilizers and closes the circle.
This solution is not only environmentally friendly, but beneficial for the environment!
With hemp and our joining technology, a product is created that brings several advantages:
- • Has an insulating effect and allows the food to remain fresh
- • Is breathable and absorbs condensation water
- • Provides extra protection and absorbs shocks during transport
- • Environmentally friendly: made from renewable raw materials, combines with ultrasound as a joining technique with less energy consumption
- • Compostable
- • Cost-saving: no additional materials like adhesives need to be used
Hemp as packaging material is the environmentally friendly alternative
